JESSE HOLLAND
I was born in 1979, grew up in Westchester, NY, and received a B.A. in Theatre (English Minor) from Middlebury College. From 2001 to 2007, I pursued a career as a theatre director culminating in a well-received Manhattan production of Romeo and Juliet starring Kristen Connelly (House of Cards, Cabin in the Woods). I spent one year on full scholarship at Northwestern University, pursuing an MFA in theatre directing but left to move to Los Angeles and make films.
For about ten years, I had two careers at the same time. I was a motion graphics designer (self-taught) and a filmmaker (writer/producer/director). I directed and edited three films that all got distribution and found audiences. My favorite of the three is We Go On, starring Annette O’Toole, but YellowBrickRoad is the one with the cult audience, recently given a successful re-release with updated VFX.
In 2017 I put directing aside and poured all my passion into motion graphic design and editing. My wheelhouse has always been entertainment marketing. I was hired as staff at Buddha Jones and spent four years there, where I learned some hard skills in design and some soft skills in professionalism. I left in May 2022 and, since then, have been freelancing at places like Trailer Park and BLT.
As a side business, I cut trailers soup-to-nuts for films that can’t afford big houses like Buddha Jones. In this case, I am editor, producer, writer, and graphics - I do it all.
My core values are authenticity and kindness. I think the reason Creative Directors enjoy me is because I take direction, I work hard, and I’m nice.
